I was wondering why people in Redwall Fanon Land seem to disapprove of manga/anime styles. It seems it is sort of frowned upon by some...? Just curious why it's either ya love it or ya hate it.
I don't know if it's just that the people drawing it aren't Miyazaki, or it's people we give them hair and human anatomy, or that my/MERLOCK's stuff looks too people-y (Hope that's not it D:, and I'm pretty sure it isn't for at least MERL), or something. OR maybe it's because it's 'cliché' or something. I dunno, but I want to know.
I have to agree with Blue. I personally love all styles of art- especially Manga/Anime:)I think adding that to the Redwall world is unique, considering that the Redwall world is very ... not. People might be opposed to it for the reasons Blue said, and plus because they don't like some of the typical stereotypes Manga and Anime produces. -shrug- --Chris has a signature!! o.O 19:37, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Tips And Such
If you want help on something or just want to give a tip on drawing stuff, put on down here!
Always use references
You will get nowhere if you perfect drawing something that you have only seen a few times. You will almost always leave a few critical details out and then your picture is faulty. Moral of the story: Familiarize yourself with what you draw. --Neildown - De oppresso Liber Semper fi 20:39, May 30, 2010 (UTC)
Buy a TON of Art Books or borrow some good ones from the library.
I own probably around 10 art books. Art techniques is what I mean by art books. Some good ones are ones by Chris Hart and this one book called "Draw Furry" is GREAT for anthro art. No money? That's why you have a birthday. And you can use Christmas time, too. I know most of the library books on art suck, but it saves you money. Especially with the whole economic crisis.
Listen to Constructive Critism
Some critism is constructive. Not all, but a lot is.
Examples of constructive cristism:
"Great work, but all of the colors seem to blend a bit. Try mixing up your pallete!"
"Keep it up, but maybe try shading; it wil really add depth!"
"I think you really have potential, but the hands are a bit too small."
"You might want to try to make it a bit more proportional; this picture would be MASSIVELY EPIC if it was just a bit more proportinate."
"Nice work, but next time, experiment with some folds in the clothing."
But, of course, because people are weird sometimes, some people aren't always nice. That's not really critism. It's more like flaming/trolling. Sometimes it's unitentional. Sometimes it is.
"This is the stupidest thign ever."
"I hate your art."
"It's really realy bad."
"He/She looks (opposite gender)." (Sometimes people honestly mistake art for the other gender.)
"I puked when a saw this."
"Go to *BLEEP*!"
Et cetera, Et cetera.
In these kind of situations, just ignore the comment and don't flame them back. Don't reply back. One of the admins will find out and punish them. People are mean sometimes. Oh well.
Making Sure You Don't Accidentally Flame Someone
Sometimes you try to say something nice but it comes out wrong. Here's some tips for the artist fo the constructive critism.
- BE NICE!
- Think if somebody said this to you: Would you be glad/mad/happy/sad?
- If you're trying to tell somebody they've improved, don't say stuff like, "WOAH! YOUR OLD STUFF SUCKED! This doesn't."
- Try to point out something nice if possible.
- Telling someone they aren't good at drawing ______ is not a good idea.
- People like nicely said construcive stuff. "You'll thank me later!" is a good motto for the critism writer.
- Basically, don't be trollin'.
Be a calm person
[No, this is not some zen philosophy] When your pictures just aren't turning out and you can't get that one detail right, and the head shape is all wrong, and the fingers look funny, and you are getting very mad, and about to look for some maniacally violent and inhumane way to burn your work, reboot yourself and go find something else to do. Doing art while in a frustrated mood usually ends in more frustration [and more abhorring art - which is usually the cause of the frustration :O] . --Neildown - De Oppresso Liber Semper fi 23:08, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
Play around with your art and see what you come up with. When you draw something, do it completely different from what you normally would and you may come up with something you could add to your normal style. --Neildown - De Oppresso Liber Semper fi 23:21, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
